Spanish representation
Will there be any Spanish representation at the 2025 Oscars? 'Second Prize', by Isaki Lacuesta and Pol Rodríguez, the film selected by the Spanish Film Academy to compete for the Oscar for best international film, has not achieved a single win in this 97th edition. And neither has 'The Room Next Door', Pedro Almodóvar's first English-language film with Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore, achieved any nominations for the 2025 Oscars.
Who has managed to get a nomination for Best Leading Actress has been Karla Sofia Gascón for her role in 'Emilia Pérez'. If she wins the award, she would be the first Spanish actress to win the Oscar for her leading role. Quite a feat in a category that could not be more competitive this year.
