The 70th Emmy Awards ceremony was held on September 17th , with a parade of celebrities sporting stunning and memorable looks. Actors from popular series like 'Game of Thrones' and 'This Is Us,' which are currently dominating online platforms, were certainly in attendance.
Among the winners were the hit series 'Game of Thrones' , but also the dramas 'The Crown' and 'The Americans'. These galas always feature a red carpet brimming with event ideas, some successful and others not so much.
The original looks
Among the looks at the gala, we saw some familiar styles, but also a few guests who wanted to surprise us, and they did so in a good way . It's easy to stick with a typical, pretty dress, without taking any risks, but the truth is that sometimes, to win, that's precisely what you have to do. Nobody remembers a pretty but adequate dress, because it's just more of the same. What sticks in our minds are the most amazing looks, the ones we absolutely love.
Emilia Clarke was undoubtedly one of the stars of the night, playing our Daenerys from Game of Thrones. Her beautiful dress with embroidery and lace was original and very feminine . We also really liked the blue Carolina Herrera dress worn by Michele Dockery. Young actress Millie Bobby Brown always surprises, offering great style despite her young age, with a dress featuring a vintage print, pink tones, and a full skirt.
Colorful looks
There are always those dresses that add a splash of color to any event, beyond the always welcome black and white. Sandra Oh opted for a dark red dress with a plunging neckline. Thandie Newton certainly made a statement with her pink dress, featuring a long train draped like a scarf around her neck. Another guest who captivated us was Poppy Delevingne, who wore a mint green dress, a shade we saw a lot of a few years ago but which has now almost disappeared. The dress had to be admired from every angle, as it boasts a full skirt and several layers in the back.
Minimalist looks
Although the vast majority of dresses aimed to impress, offering intricate details or elaborate cuts, a strong trend towards minimalist looks reminiscent of the 90s was evident. Many guests opted for black or white as their preferred color, choosing simple, basic dresses. Some even went for minimal jewelry and understated shoes. These looks sometimes prove that the saying "less is more" truly works.
Improvable looks
As we said, some of the looks are fine, but they don't offer anything new; they're more of the same, and therefore we think they could be improved. Those who wear a pretty dress don't take risks, but they also don't win or become memorable. That's why we hope these guests will take a few more risks at their next events. Dakota Fanning wore a truly beautiful green dress with delicate pleating, Heidi Klum accentuated her figure with a pastel dress, and Kirsten Dunst wore a navy blue dress that is pretty but doesn't really flatter her in terms of the neckline, which seems a bit small.
Worst Emmy looks
There's always room for looks we really don't like, like these. Dresses that are too wrinkled , shapeless, or simply unflattering. They could definitely have chosen better.
Masculine looks
Among the men's looks, we almost always see smart and elegant suits, but some guests surprise us, like Nicolaj from Game of Thrones, with his mustard-colored jacket. Kit Harington looks very elegant, albeit classic, in his black suit. Darren Criss, for his part, surprises us with a patterned suit.
