Music awards shows always deliver memorable looks, because it's an industry that takes big risks to put on a show. The 46th annual American Music Awards were held on October 9th, 2018. At this music awards ceremony, we enjoyed many celebrity appearances and performances, in addition to the awards presentation.
The big winner of the night was Taylor Swift , who now has more awards than any other singer in the history of the awards, surpassing Whitney Houston, who accumulated 21 throughout her career. But there were other winners, such as Camila Cabello, who also showed off their best red carpet looks.
Original dresses
At every music awards show, you can see very original dresses, usually with daring cuts and fun prints. This year, we saw some interesting dresses with floral or distressed prints. We love Cobie Smulders' short, simple dress in sky blue with a red print. It's a simple yet effective idea. On the other hand, we saw midi dresses with layers and lots of volume, perfect for showing off your legs in a long dress. Plunging, sweetheart necklines are very flattering and never fail on the red carpet.
Long dresses
If there's one dress that's become a red carpet staple, it's the long gown with a side slit to show off the leg, channeling Angelina Jolie. Several celebrities opted for this style at the event, from the ever-present Jennifer Lopez to Amber Heard and Bebe Rexha, each focusing on her own unique look. JLo chose a striking pink dress with black accessories. Bebe Rexha went for a sparkly, sequined gown with very defined shoulders. Amber was the most elegant, with a plunging neckline and a feather detail on the shoulder.
Short dresses
Short dresses are also increasingly common on the red carpet. These days, protocol doesn't matter, especially not at a music awards show. The big winner, Taylor Swift, dazzled us with a futuristic silver suit and matching thigh-high boots. Ciara wore a casual, sporty-inspired outfit, while Tyra Banks opted for a sparkly pink skirt with a white shirt.
Fancy dresses
On this red carpet, some stood out for their elegance and understated style , wearing dresses that would have been worthy of the Oscars. Rita Ora surprised us with a discreet black dress with embroidered black flowers and a simple updo. Leighton Meester wore an original two-tone dress, and Dua Lipa, who usually dresses casually, treated us to a beautiful white mermaid gown.
Fitted dresses
Beyond the dresses with meticulously crafted shapes and volumes, there are the more fitted dresses , designed to accentuate the feminine silhouette to its fullest. In this case, we see Mariah Carey in a dress with semi-sheer sequins and feathers, very much in her style. We also love Vanessa Hudgens' simple dress, inspired by 90s minimalism, in a pale pink. Heidi Klum also wore black, in a bohemian dress with fringe and sheer details.
Jacket suits
At almost every event, more and more women are opting for menswear-inspired styles . It's both comfortable and elegant. At these awards, several women decided to interpret the suit in their own way, like Camila Cabello, who wore it with a beautiful black corset. Busy Phillipps chose flared trousers with sparkles and a jacket with a bra underneath. Tracee Ellis Ross selected a striking pink suit.
